To make this easier on myself, I made this in the deadening cooker past putting the meat and gravy mixture on loftier for four hours, and then I added the carrots and potatoes and cooked for two more hours (even so on high). The meat was nice and tender and the sweetness from the apple juice cut through the saltiness of the soy and onion soup mix. My husband liked it.

This was very easy to prepare and the event is delicious! A nice variation from the traditional pot roast flavor. Fifty-fifty my picky teenager liked information technology. I used Yukon Gilded potatoes and likewise added a few small quartered onions with the vegetables. The meat was very tender, juicy and flavorful; it was practiced served with the goop, or you can thicken the broth with cornstarch or flour to brand a gravy (every bit picky teenager did).

My kids loved this pot roast! Which is a great things considering they are picky eaters. I did a few things differently, though. Instead of cooking information technology in the oven, I cooked information technology in a Crock Pot for six hours and omitted the veggies. Then when information technology was finished I put information technology in a blistering pan, poured one-half of the broth on it and used the remaining goop for gravy. It was tender, juicy and delicious!

Really nicely flavored, the sweet of the apple and the common salt of the soy residuum well. Very tender and not dry at all. I forgot to buy the concentrate (information technology was even on my list and I merely skipped over information technology!), and then I used two of my daughter's 100% apple juice juice boxes. I omitted the h2o. This yet worked! Information technology is a great culling to the traditional, very salty pot roasts.

SO,So Delicious! Not too sweet, Not too salty, I would say pretty darn perfect. Very moist! No knives needed! I did add together a bay leaf and added more garlic(we are garlic freaks in our house!). A hit in the Elliott house!

This roast was very flavorful. I omitted the potatoes and added ii coursely chopped onions.I as well omitted the apple juice and added a sliced apple and 3 ribs of chopped celery about 1 60 minutes before information technology was washed.I also used iv cups of beef broth and i packet of beef/onion dry out soup mix along with the dry onion soup mix.It was very, very practiced.

I was disappointed with how this roast turned out. I found the apple tree to be much too sweet. Perchance using half a can of the apple juice concentrate would be better.
01/10/2011
This was actually proficient! I didn't accept concentrated apple juice so used what I had, apple cider, and was wonderful. 1 alarm though, I used a 1lb roast so expected it to cook faster but it was done in less than 2 hours so you might desire to check information technology more often to avoid over cooking. Update...I fabricated this with a pork roast and information technology was even better! BTW I cooked this both times in my slow cooker. I have the kind that takes 1/2 the fourth dimension as the usual ones. and they were done in merely 2 hours. I cooked a little longer only to make it more tender. Try this with a pork roast thoughas it truly is astonishing, more than 5 stars.

Perhaps I did something wrong, but I didn't sense of taste any apple tree in this roast. Information technology but tasted similar soy sauce and onion soup mix. The cooking time was actually off, too, my roast (which was the same size called for in the recipe) was done after 2 hours, so I didn't even go to put the vegetables in. I won't be making this again.
03/27/2011
Sorry I detest to post a bad review, but this was non proficient!! I put it on was so excited to have a homecooked meal set up after picking up my husband from being out of boondocks. Nosotros get home and serve it and it was to apple tasting. I followed the directions exactly as writen. Whenever you took a bite of the potato and carrot it was sour tasting. Yes, the roast was tender, but did not have good flavor.
08/18/2011
Nosotros were able to do this recipe in the crock pot / slow cooker...instead of a i/2 inch of water i did an inch of water just to ensure the meat wouldn't dry out...as well i ended upward cooking it on high the entire time for an extra half an 60 minutes [4 1/2 hours]...i added the vegetables around the two hour marker...not going to lie we were very skeptical almost the apple juice concentrate simply it turned out to be super delicious and flavorful! the meat was perfectly tender! We will be making this dish once again!

I'm from the south so true southern manner food is a normal in my home. I used this recipe every bit I was looking for a "new" flavour to my normal roast. I found it to be way to sweet! Though information technology was "ok" Esp. For kids!
01/15/2011
Swell flavor, cooked for two hours at 350 for medium rare. very tender! I added more soy sauce to balance the sweetness of the apple juice and it worked out bang-up!

Excellent recipe!!! This is one of our family's favorites and I love how it makes the whole firm aroma dandy all twenty-four hours. I follow the recipe with a few exceptions: I add carrots and celery to the pot roast. And then I make ruby-red-skinned mashed potatoes on the side and apply the left over liquid from the pot roast to make gravy. Thanks Christine for a wonderful recipe! The leftover meat and gravy (if you lot take whatever) is a peachy substitute for the meat and broth in the Beef Stew and Dumplings recipe from this site. Makes some other delicious meal without every bit much work every bit starting from scratch.

This is my favorite Pot roast recipe. My kids and hubby all like it, the meat is tender and it makes a wonderful gravy!!
11/16/2007
That was one of the best pot roasts I have always had!!!
07/29/2010
Astonishing!! I accept never made pot roast earlier, but my Grandma makes the best pot roast and I take to say this is but every bit good, if not better! My husband loved it at first only as he was eating he said it was a little too sweetness and next fourth dimension I should utilise half a can of apple juice instead of the whole can. I still think information technology'south Succulent, I am eating the leftovers at this very moment! I did everything exactly as the recipe says except I cooked for viii hours on low in my slow cooker.

this roast was just ok. 3 pound roast merely took 2 hours to melt, then listened to everyones advice nigh adding carrots/potatoes in sooner. The potatoes tasted pretty decent, but the season of the apple tree juice concentrate/onion soup and soy sauce did Non compliment the carrots at all. I couldn't eat them.
11/05/2008
Fantastic!!! We but cooked potatoes with it. We too put a small rack in the roaster and put some cabbage in to steam. It was so delicious my ane year old was eating information technology and my picky husband said I could brand it again.
03/02/2009
I've made this recipe several times now, and each and every fourth dimension, it has been a huge hitting! My hubby LOVES it, and always says it's the virtually tender, moist and delicious roast he's ever had. Better than a restaurant, he says! :) I served it for family who came to visit, and anybody raved on how much they loved it. A+ recipe, so easy to make, and quick too!
xi/25/2011
We used 2.5 cubes of veggie boulion mixed with a 1/two c. of hot h2o instead of the onion soup mix. We besides used about 4 c. of Cran-Raspberry 100% Juice in place of water. This was delicious...4.5 stars out of five. :-)
ten/04/2009
This was AWESOME! I call up it may but be my new roast recipe. I did not make any changes, which is unusual. I did however, cook it in my slow cooker on depression for 8 hours. Next, I am going to take to effort the stew reccommended by another user. I dear recipes that are 2 in one!
04/04/2009
It came out amazing and wouldn't hesitate to use information technology again.
12/07/2011
I thought this was a nifty recipe.. super simple and everything came out great.. it was even better the side by side mean solar day.. and then much ameliorate that when I brand it next time, I'one thousand going to put it in the refrigerator immediately and eat information technology the next solar day instead! WOW YUM
12/29/2010
My kids are not fans of pot roast.. Still... they devoured the last pot roast I made using this recipe. I oasis't seen my pot roast disappear then fast ... well.. EVER! Thank you and so much for a chance to feed my boys something besides chicken!
12/15/2008
Ameliorate than I expected. I volition make this again for sure!
06/21/2011
I went a niggling crazy with the soy sauce & garlic so I was agape it would be too salty. Not to mention the onion mix was similar pure flavored common salt. I bought a cheap apple tree concentrate- which made me dubiousness my creation as well. Information technology turned out perfect. I honestly hate roasts. This was perfect for me. Not crazy BEEF flavor, a squeamish refreshing taste. Thank you!
03/19/2009
Best roast I've ever cooked
07/19/2011
I have never made pot roast myself because everyone else's, whether at someone'due south home or at a restaraunt, I never liked it. But chuck roast was on sale at the grocery store and I came across this recipe. I was skeptical but tried it out. I followed the recipe but used regular apple juice rather than concentrate. It was SOOO skilful. The meat then tender and flavorful. My married man couldn't get enough. Usually we accept left overs to requite neighbors/friends...only not with this recipe!
12/18/2011
Nice flavour..will make again. My house guests asked for the recipe so it got the thumbs up from several people
02/10/2010
Absolutely Yummy! Replaced the dried onion mix with one finely chopped onion. Superb! will be made again and again!
x/25/2009
This was good. My husband thought it too sweet, but I didn't. Just put the carrots in, and rubbed the netted rump roast with the soy sauce. Could not gustatory modality the soy at all. stuck garlic in the netting, will cutting pockets the next time as flavour was very subtle. Nifty for a cold fall nighttime! Made the house smell wonderful!
08/21/2010
I loved this. I used apple tree juice instead of concentrate + h2o and chopped onion instead of the mix. I can see how it might be too sweet for some, only I really liked the season combination. I might add a niggling spice next fourth dimension (red pepper?) to remainder the sweetness a little more.
12/15/2007
I thought this was fantastic. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I take passed it along to friends and family as information technology is the perfect Sun company meal where you but pop it in and walk away. Horray!
01/thirty/2011
Awesome!!!! I made this for dinner tonight and it was very tasty. My married man enjoys things more savory, so information technology wasn't his favorite- but he did get back for seconds. My kids and I loved it. Five stars!!!
03/25/2011
My husband gave this a 9.5 out of x! So easy and and then good. I added more garlic and chopped onions and used a cup or 2 of apple juice instead of the concentrate (helped reduce the sweetness). Fabricated mashed potatoes and gravy with the juice. Succulent and so easy. Thanks
x/sixteen/2012
Loved making this, very uncomplicated, merely fabricated a few small changes. A friend of mine told me virtually this recipe & had mentioned that her vegetables turned to mush, that cooking them for 2 more hours was too much. And then I cut that down to 1:15 on the last leg, also used gourmet baby carrots, (unsliced), cherry potatoes not peeled but cubed & added chopped green onions on the roast @ the start. Perfect!
10/10/2011
I actually liked this recipe! I made a few minor changes and it was delish! I used sliced mushrooms and onions and instead of onion soup I used Emeril'due south Essence seasoning (I can't do MSG) LOVED this roast and will make it again.
02/03/2011
this is a staple in my house. i was known as the family member who couldnt cook and this has redeemed me. give thanks you! my husband even brags about it! i Dear this recipe! i fifty-fifty add together to information technology and it evolves equally time goes on.
01/nineteen/2013
Non every bit proficient as I thought, though ane family memeber liked it. Piece of cake to make.
03/13/2013
I used information technology with chicken and was delicious! Will use over again with beef side by side time.
10/fourteen/2012
We have had this a couple of times now, very very good! You lot will not be sorry.
12/07/2007
fantastic sugariness flavor
02/09/2012
Absolutely succulent! My boyfriend is a dandy melt and experiments with well-nigh every blazon of nutrient, and he said this is by FAR the BEST pot roast he'southward ever had. I hold!
01/ten/2012
The roast itself was succulent. The onion mix on meridian composite well with the sweet apple juice. I had an English cut chuck roast that was a pilus under 3lbs, so the cooking time was cut downwards about twenty minutes. The simply reason this wasn't a iv star was considering the vegetables were bland and undercooked.
07/29/2013
Delicious pot roast! Information technology was and then skillful, a 3 lb roast only served 2 of u.s. with a lilliputian left for luncheon. Not as well sweetness or onion-y. I cooked mine in a deadening cooker. Placed the meat and non-veggies inside as directed on high for iv hours, then sliced up the veggies and put them on loftier for another ii. Came out fantastically. Might add sliced apple tree next time.
04/26/2011
soooo..yummy and tender...followed recipe exactly :)
02/17/2008
Be conscientious with this recipe. I cooked a slightly smaller roast for two hours at 375 and the roast was finished before I even added the potatoes and carrots! Overall, great flavor though!
09/06/2013
I loved this dish! The just thing I did differently was instead of juice concentrate I used apple sauce, just a chip more than 12 ounces though and it was incredible!
04/21/2017
I liked the idea of using the apple juice concentrate but had to tweak recipe when it cmae to onoion soup mix. onion allergy. i used buillion cube south in place of soup mix like profile. nosotros thought information technology was a very good roast tender used sauce to make gravy.
10/30/2016
I rate this as I love it merely I inverse the recipe slightly. I added 1/4 cup of packed brownish sugar and dissolved information technology in the juice later the roast had cooked for a while. I did let some of the brownish sugar on the roast besides. The carbohydrate makes the roast and carrots more tender.
09/22/2013
My roast is cooking as I write this. I used 21/two cups apple tree cider instead of apple juice concentrate. I also browned beef and veggies first, deglazing the pan with 1/2 cup brandy earlier adding the cider. Because I generously seasoned the roast and veg with salt and pepper, I did forgo the soy sauce. I tasted the broth equally I put the roast in the oven----very good balance of sugariness and savory. Will add beef goop to drippings when making gravy.
02/13/2015
I loved this (so did my husband, who doesn't normally similar sweet or apple flavored meals). I browned the roast in a skillet and poked about 10 garlic slivers into information technology then transferred to my crockpot. I added the residuum of the ingredients and dull-cooked for about 6 hours. I tin can't wait to go far over again... the leftovers went much as well quickly.
04/18/2015
Delicious. I cooked it in the crock pot by blanket it in the onion soup mix and searing it in a pan. I put it in the crock pot and added the veggies (carrots and parsnips)underneath. The sweetness and savory philharmonic worked nicely.
10/24/2019
This is awesome! I fabricated it with actual apple cider instead of water and apple juice concentrate, and I used Lipton Beefy Onion dry out soup mix. I also substituted coconut aminos for soy sauce, and sprinkled coarse ground black pepper and garlic pulverisation on each side. Both times there were no leftovers!
12/30/2012
I've made this recipe numerous times, both in my oven and in my slow cooker. I ever brand it when my local grocery has roasts on special that come with free bags of veggies. It is a little sweet (I've fabricated information technology with both apple tree juice and the frozen concentrate) simply I don't find the sugariness overpowering at all. I dump it all in the slow cooker and after an hour or two of cooking, I add in carrots, quartered onions, and diced potatoes. Then I only cook it until the meat falls apart. It's so delicious. As per another review, I also used my leftovers the first time to make stew and dumplings. I found the recipe for that on hither was too many steps for what I had, and so I just reheated the leftover frozen pot roast with all the juice and veg and then made dumplings to drop in. It came out super succulent. Groovy repurposed meal besides. Thanks!
08/08/2012
One of my favs! This roast turns out so practiced. With the apple flavor and the tenderness, delish. I have to add a little more to it bc of all the men around but still wonderful lol. Ty
01/27/2017
Everyone loved it!!!!
12/26/2012
Very adept! Simple to make. My kid loved information technology. I put this in the crockpot on Low for 8 hrs, turned out tender.
01/13/2013
It's a cracking recipe, accentuated past the sweetness. Adding a Granny Smith Apple in with the potatoes and carrots gives information technology an extra 'umph'. All in all, await the vegetable to hold more of the apple flavor than the meat, even with the garlic insertions. Basting helps, and should be added to the official instructions. A delicious dish regardless!
